LUST LABEL.... AMBUSH DESIGN

Ambush have been on our radar for a while now... but their latest collection NU ORDER has smashed it.  If you don't know then get to know the beautiful couple that is Yoon and Verbal...
They set Ambush up in 2008 and have been steadily working their way up the Tokyo ladder of stardom, and now lucky for us spreading the love through Europe.  You can now buy/ stare longing at their creations at Selfridges, Browns and Machine A.

We want every shiny bit of this range.... Door Knocker earrings to die for (with special bits to go round your ears so they don't hurt... genius!)
chains that Mr T would be jealous of
and sovereign rings that your Grandad would be proud of!
And the styling on this collection is lush...

Good one Yoon and Verbal you are officially the IT couple of Tokyo, our Ambush saving piggy bank has started.

JAZZ UP YOUR JUMPER D.I.Y....

This is the easiest way to bring some new life into your sweater. It'll cost you next to nothing and the only catch is that it is a little time consuming. This aside, you'll end up with a really nice garment and if your revamping a piece you already have then its a win win! I found it quite therapeutic to sit and hand stitch in front of an episode of Towie or even on the tube (yeah maybe not in rush hour but it was a good time killer when going to my boyfriends at the other end of the line!).
So, it's super simple, but for those of you who aren't really sewers, here's how.....

You will need your sweater (you could get a super cheap one from Primark or H&M), some beads (these were 60p a bag or x2 for £1 in one of the many haberdashery shops along Walthamstow highstreet), a pair of scissors, a ruler and some thread. Make sure the thread is as close in colour to the garment as possible (the thread in my picture was actually just one I had to hand for the pic, I used a paler grey for this jumper).

Lay the jumper out on a clean flat surface and with your ruler mark out, with equal distance, each point where you want your beads to be along the centre of the sleeve. Start from the edge of the cuff. You can just use a pencil or a biro. I didn't have a ruler to hand so I had to use the width of my three fingers together.

You'll start with that first central row sewing the beads to the points you have marked out.
Firstly, thread your needle. You want it to be double thread and you double knot both ends of the thread together. Start from the inside of the sleeve, pull through to your marked dot and then through the hole of the bead. Stitch back down into the fabric and then up again. Stitch through the bead a few times like you would with a button and then when it feels nice and secure, finish with a double/triple knot on the inside of the sleeve.

Here is why it is time consuming; because they are small beads and they're not positioned too closely to the next, after each bead, you will need to do a knot and then snip the thread rather than jumping with from bead to bead. If your like me and wear lots of jewellery you'll get it caught on the threads inside, pull or snap them and then gradually all the beads will fall off.

I did the next bit by eye but i'd recommended using the ruler still to make sure it's precise.
Either side of the central line of beads mark out your next rows to run parallel, again, with equal distance between each bead. If you started the central row from the edge of the cuff and your beads are 5cm apart from each other, start the row next to the central row 2.5cm's in from the cuff. It's up to you how close you want the lines of beads to be from each other.

Keep going until both sleeves are complete! And that's it!....You'll end up with this....

GET TO KNOW....MAGAZINE DESIGNER JESS

We're lucky to have a load of creative minds around us (and some very fun sounding jobs!) so we thought we'd pick theirs!....

Tell us about your job.
I work as part of a team who design the layout for Cosmopolitan Magazine. Were given imagery and words separately and its my job to transform that into a feature that somebody would want to read.

http://www.cosmopolitan.co.uk/

How did you get to where you are today?
I've always loved magazines and ever since reading Mizz and Bliss when i was younger I had a feeling I would end up working in magazines somehow.
I loved doing arty stuff so with magazines in mind, graphic design was the obvious uni choice for me.
I hounded so many magazines for work experience getting a placement at Elle which led to a few others and my first paid job was a junior designer at a small company in Shoreditch. I then heard from a friend that Cosmo were looking for a junior designer, went for it, and somehow got it and have been lucky enough to progress to senior designer level.

Whats the best thing about your job?
Theres a real buzz around what we do and everyone brings something different. I love being able to work with beautiful fashion photography.

Who are your personal favourite photographers?
I like Ellen Von Unwerth
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ellen-Von-Unwerth/19216328261

Annie Leibovitz

and Patrick Demarchelier

And what inspires what you choose to wear?
I'm really into street wear and the culture that it comes from. I'd definitely say that my love of hip hop has had an influence on the way I dress. I like to keep it feminine. I love to do my nails and pile on the sparkly jewellery, I think that cancels out the risk of looking boy'ie.

Tell us about your outfit.
Sportswear's quite big at the moment so I girl'd up my tracksuit bottoms with ballet pumps, lipstick and something thats a bit more fitted for the top.

Who's your girl crush at the moment?
Iggy Azalea. It's taken me a while to make up my mind about her, but a couple of her most recent videos have won me over. Her look's really interesting and fresh and i'm a little bit jealous of her face.

Where do you like to shop?
You can always rely on H&M and Urban Outfitters, I also like the occasional investment piece like a Michael Kors bag, but some of my favourites were found on girly trips to the U.S. We found some pretty good vintage shops; Beacons Closet in Brooklyn and flea markets off Melrose in L.A. I got a necklace thats an actual monkey nut dipped in 24carat gold on a chain.

So your into unusual jewellery?
Yeah, pretty much obsessed. I like things that are a bit silly. I like to have fun with it.....but it has to be gold....and there has to be lots of it.

Shoes or trainers?
Trainers all day!

FASHION NEWS....ERYKAH BADU FOR GIVENCHY!

Beautiful neo-soul singer Erykah Badu is fronting the 2014 spring summer campaign for Givenchy and the results are stunning!

Riccardo Tisci, creative director for Givenchy womenswear, says he had always had Badu in mind whilst designing the Givenchy SS/14 Collection

"Erykah, she's an icon-come on!" says Tisci. "What I want to do with my advertising campaign is spread the love. Already now its been three seasons that I've been using people that express something-they are great artists, or beautiful women, or stylish women, or models that I really believe in. It's kind of a family portfolio."

GIRL CRUSH....PAT BUTCHER

This might sound strange, but when people have asked me who my style icons are, quite often Eastenders Pat Butcher will pop into my mind. I've always had an appreciation for a garish garment and the challenge/fun that comes with styling it.

My favourite pair of earings came from a vintage store in L.A that they actually just gave to me when they saw me admiring them in the cabinet. I thought it was my lucky day and I wore them to death!

So you see, Pat is a girl after my own heart. She understands the power of a statement earing. Simple black dress, POW! not anymore. Jeans and t-shirt, just a pair of massive earings makes them fabulous!

She also has the eye for a really nice big furry coat, and living in london, thats what most people see you in most of the time!
And then theres the leopard (not real of course). But I'll never get enough of leopard....think I'm starting to see it as a neutral! .....Pat knows.

GIRL CRUSH....ALABAMA WORLEY

So I know its an obvious one but the 1993 movie True Romance's Alabama Worley has to be my timeless and ultimate girl crush. She's so cool, she's so cool, she's so cool!

I really couldn't care if neon, leopard or see-through tops with bright coloured bras are "out" Alabama can do no wrong, I know a lot of girls would agree! Even her chilled look is strong...Big leopard jacket, hoodie, baggy rolled up jeans and converse. Hot!

I love her love of  animal print (and many different animals!), big/tacky accessories, colour, texture and metallic. She makes outfits fun (she probably got her glasses at a joke shop - i got a necklace i wear all the time from one!ha!) and its just all round super happy vibes to look at her!

DIY... SUPER QUICK SCRUNCHIE!

Ok so this has been going on for a while now... the scrunchie was sneaking on to catwalks since, Ashish's SS13 show that was full of em http://www.vogue.co.uk/fashion/spring-summer-2013/ready-to-wear/ashish and i still think that show still looks super fresh, so when the sunshine peaked out this weekend I had to make a quick scrunchie... this takes 5 mins I promise!

get ya sewing machine out and find a scrap of fabric and some skinny elastic...
OK... cut a strip of fabric, doesn't have to be too straight all the sides will be bagged, about 40cm long

and about 15cm wide

quick wizz down the edge sewing the long sides together
turn him inside out so you got ya nice print on the outside, and cut a bit of elasic about half the length of the fabric... hold the elasic together and pretend its a hair band see if its stretchy enough

sew the elastic together with a few zig zags backwards and forward (don't catch the fabric in here)
turn the edges together and hand stitch round folding in any loose threads
and would you believe it
TA DAAAA SUMMERY SCRUNCHIE!
